One
of the most exciting areas of the website is the opportunity for us
to recognize Chebucto alumni who have gone on to play at a high
level. We are proud to have been part of their hockey career!
But
we need help from all of you to gather this information! If you (or
someone you know) played for Chebucto Minor Hockey, or it's
predecessors (Armdale, Spryfield, or Herring Cove Minor Hockey), and
played Professional, NCAA, CIS, Major Junior, Junior A, Major Midget,
or at a Prepatory School, please help us out.
We
would like to put a brief bio of each player and his/her
accomplishments on our website. If you are interested in being
part of this project please send any information you have (years
played at Chebucto, position, description of accomplishment, etc.) to Communications@ChebuctoMinorHockey.com.
We
have a strong and proud history - now let's celebrate it!

From
Atlantics to Beacats:
Three
former Chebucto grads have come full circle.
Ben
Dempsey, Jonathan MacArthur and Chris Ivanko all grew up playing
hockey in the Chebucto Atlantics system. Who would have thought that
these three young men would end up winning a Provincial Junior A
Championship together 6 years down the road? Both MacArthur and
Dempsey are in their final season with the Bearcats and while Ivanko
is playing in his second full campaign. The 20 year old MacArthur was
acquired at the Trade deadline this season while Dempsey and Ivanko
are enjoying their second year together in the Truro system. All
three admitted it has been a great experience to have a couple guys
from home to share this years success.
Roy
Dempsey had the chance to ask the boys a few questions after their
big win on Tuesday and here's what they said: |
|
|
Jonathan
McArthur |
|
|
|
Q:
Who had the biggest impact on your hockey career? |
|
A
: Dad. |
|
Q:
What does it feel like to be playing Junior hockey with two other
players from the same association? |
|
A:
Feels great. Couldn't be happier to finish out my Junior career with
a couple of great fellas I grew up with, feels like family. Makes ya
proud of where you came from. |
|
Q:
What advice can you give to the young players coming up through the system? |
|
A:
Work hard, respect you're coaches and teammates, and don't ever let
a 14-0 loss to Cole Harbor get your hopes down. |
|
|
|
|
|
Ben
Dempsey |
|
|
|
Q:
What was you favorite memory from playing in Chebucto? |
|
A
: I'd say my favorite memory would have to be, in PeeWee A When we
were coached by Doug Gilbert, My Father Roy Sr. and our goalie coach
David palmer Our team made it to the provincial final.
Even though we had and upsetting overtime loss, we all enjoyed that
year, especially when we had some success. Alot of great guys on that
team who wanted to win, and have fun at the same time. |
|
Q:
Who had the biggest impact on your hockey career? |
|
A
: The biggest impact on my hockey career, would have to be my
family, My big brother Roy Jr, father Roy Sr, and mother Sharon. They
were there every second they could to support me. Even to this day
they are still comming to watch me all over the Maritimes. Whether it
be in Amherst, or Summerside, they still make the drive to watch me
play. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be in the position I am today. |
|
Q:
What does it feel like to be playing Junior hockey with two other
players from the same association? |
|
A
: It feels great!, I mean it feels like it was written from a book.
You start off with two guys that you first jumped on the ice with,
next thing you know you are ending your hockey career with the same
guys. Couldnt ask for a better way to end it. It is also great that
you get to look at the organization the three of us came from, shows alot! |
|
Q:
What advice can you give to the young players coming up through the system? |
|
A
: My Dad always told me not to take things for granite. Everyday
work hard, whether it be school, hockey, or anything you think can be
achieved. Set your mind to something and go do it. These things can
not be achieved without the effort. Your all still young and its
better to relaize early than later because in the end you will be
able to have that success, and be able to look back and say you
earned it. Its not always about the skill, its about how much your
willing to give each day in and out, its all about how much heart
your willing to give, things will eventually fall in to place. |
|
|
|
|
|
Chris
Ivanko |
|
|
|
Q:
What was you favorite memory from playing in Chebucto? |
|
A
: Had to be the time first year Pewee when the team went to the Can/Am
tournament in Montreal, so many memories during that trip which made
it unreal. One memory is when the tournament coordinators were asking
for Graham Bona's ID cause they thought he was above the age, because
im pretty sure he was the same size as he is today! |
|
Q:
Who had the biggest impact on your hockey career? |
|
A
: Biggest impact would have to be my mom and dad, they helped me
through everything and they were not to tough on me but then again
not to soft to keep me motivated. |
|
Q:
What does it feel like to be playing Junior hockey with two other
players from the same association? |
|
A
: It feels awesome, brings back all the memories we had together
when we were younger. |
|
Q:
What advice can you give to the young players coming up through the system? |
|
A
: My advice I would give to the young players is never give up!
Always put 100% into everything you do, because you never know who is
watching. Also you want to respect your coaches, teammates and
especially your parents because they put countless hours into driving
you to the rink, getting you dressed and motivating you. |
